Revelations Revealed

Back in the 70s I came into contact with a book written by Hal Lindsey by the name of, "The Late Great Planet Earth". This book is an in-depth study of the book of Revelation. The only problem with it is that it takes a totally literal approach to the book of Revelation. In his book a timetable was laid down which culminated with the return of Christ's millennial kingdom on earth in the year 2000. In this scenario the European common market was to become of the one world government of the beast. The Dome of the Rock which sits upon Solomon's Temple Mount would be destroyed by some type of cataclysm and the third Temple would be built in the exact location as the previous two temples. Once the temple was built and consecrated the old rites of Judaism would be reinstated. The beast who would become a world dictator would then perform an abomination of desolation in the holy of holies by declaring himself to be God. World peace would not last long and the nations of the world would gather for battle on the plane of Migido. At which point Jesus would make a physical return to the earth to set up his millennial kingdom. All of this was due to occur before the year 2000. Because you are reading this it should be painfully obvious to you that none of this ever happened. However this has not stopped Hal Lindsey from continuing to spread his message of impending doom.

As the year 2000 approached it was apparent to me that Mr. Lindsey had made a serious miscalculation and that none of this was going transpire in my lifetime and probably wouldn't transpire in anyone else's either. This left me very perplexed because Mr. Lindsey's analysis of the book of Revelation and the way it dovetails so nicely with Old Testament Scripture seemed to indicate that he was correct. So what went wrong or did anything go wrong. Did somebody either Mr. Lindsey were myself make a mistake? I didn't have the answers to these questions but I kept an open mind in the hope that someday I might be able to find an answer. As it turned out I didn't have to wait long.

I had already been an initiate of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn for several years and was very familiar with the initiation ceremonies. One afternoon I was setting up the temple for a grade initiation when something unusual caught my attention. I had read the initiation ceremonies many times and I couldn't understand why I hadn't caught this sooner. There in the initiation ceremony towards the end where the hierophant gives a long-winded speech was the symbology used in the book of Revelation. There it was for all to see, the four rivers, the beast, the whore of Babylon etc. it was at this point that question arose in my mind. What is the symbology of the book of Revelation doing in the self transformative ceremonies of the Golden Dawn. Revelations is about the end of the world. Revelations are supposed to be the prophecies about how the end of the world is supposed to take place. So what is the symbology doing in the ceremonies of Golden Dawn? Could it be that the book of Revelation is not a book of prophecy about how the end of the world is supposed to take place? This led me to investigate the other initiation ceremonies of Golden Dawn and lo and behold there is even more from the book of Revelations in them.

As I began to think about this things started to make a lot more sense to me. It became apparent that the book of Revelation is not and cannot be a book of prophecy. The name revelation is your first clue. Where'd you revelations occur? They occur only in the human mind. If the book of Revelations was intended to be a book of prophecy they would've called it the book of prophecy and not the book of Revelations. If this is true then obviously when we talk about the whore of Babylon and the beast etc. we are not talking about something literal, we are talking about something metaphorical. So then the whore of Babylon and the beast are merely symbols that are used to represent something and that something is in the human mind.

I reminded myself of what the purpose of Golden Dawn is to try and figure out how this symbology fit into the big picture. Because if it didn't fit than I was on the wrong path. The purpose of Golden Dawn is to transform Adam into Adam Kadmon. Adam is the imperfect man, the flawed man from the garden of Eden. Adam Kadmon is man perfected, free of any vice or flaws. The function of Golden Dawn is through a process of self transformation to change you from Adam into Adam Kadmon. This is an inner journey that takes place in the inner spaces of the human mind. So how does one accomplish this self transformation? Only by confronting the darkness that exists inside each and every one of us. Obviously the creators of Golden Dawn knew all of this and that is why the symbology from the book of Revelations was incorporated into the initiation ceremonies. When I realized this I was in total awe of the founders of Golden Dawn. I don't think that we have seen the likes of their brilliance in anyone since.

This realization was a tremendous relief to me because no longer did I have to live in fear of impending global annihilation, because I realized that's not what the book of revelations is about. It's about confronting your inner demons and the symbology used is merely representative of the things that everyone encounters on that journey. As I meditated more about this it became apparent to me that any religion that looks forward to or uses the annihilation of mankind as a solution for mankind's problems is a religion with a death wish. This is not something that I would say is conducive to good mental health. It was as if a tremendous burden had been lifted from my shoulders. No longer did I see the world in terms of black and white, right and wrong, good and evil. I saw the world in living color for the first time in my life.
